Vijay Hazare was born on March 11, 1915, in Sangli (Maharashtra). He was the first captain of Indian cricket team after Independence. Vijay Hazare came to the Indian team as an allrounder. He debuted at the age of 31. Despite this, he made many records in his name.

Batting record:

Vijay Hazare played a total of 30 Test matches In this, he scored 2,192 runs at an average of 47.65. During this, he scored 7 centuries and 9 half centuries.

His highest score was 164. he was the first Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in Test Cricket along with this he scoresĀ a century in both innings.

Not only this, Vijay Hazare was the first Indian to score a century in three consecutive Tests. He played 238 matches in first-class cricket. He scored 18740 runs at an average of 58.38. During this, he scored 60 centuries and 73 half-centuries.

Bowling career:

Vijay Hazare took 20 wickets in 30 Test matches. During this, his best bowling performance was 4 for 29 runs. He took 595 wickets in 238 matches of first-class cricket career. In first-class cricket, his best performance is 90 runs, 8 wickets.

In 1952, playing in the captaincy of Vijay Hazare, Team India won an innings and eight runs against England in Chennai (Madras). However, this is their only win in their captaincy. He captained India for 14 matches.

Vijay Hazare and Jasu Patel were the first cricketers to be honored with Padma Shri. He got this honor in 1960.
