India Started their New Zealand tour with a bang. They outplayed the Kiwis completely and achieved a thumping victory at the inaugural ODI in Napier. India has won a one-day match against New Zealand in 10 years on their soil.
With the brilliant batting of Shikhar Dhawan (75 not out), India defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets in the first one-day match at McLean Park. Virat’s side took a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. Ambati Rayudu (13) also remained unbeaten with Dhawan. Winning the toss, New Zealand were all out for 157 runs. New Zealand’s captain Ken Williamson scored the highest score of 64 runs. Apart from this, no other batsman has been able to do much good for the hosts.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav took the maximum number of four wickets. Apart from this, Mohammed Shami got three wickets and Yuzvendra Chahal got two in succession. In this match, Shami achieved the feat of being the first Indian to complete the fastest 100-wicket haul in One Day Internationals. He has left behind former player Irfan Pathan. Shami completes his century of wickets in the 56th ODI, while Pathan achieves that feat in the 59th ODI.
