Muttiah Muralitharan is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who was rated as greatest Test match bowler. He recently comments on Yuzvendra Chahal in an interview.
In 4th ODI Match between India and Australia, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal gave 80 runs in 10 overs in Mohali and took just one wicket.
In a country where veteran spinners like Shane Warne had to struggle, Australia’s Adam Jampa is proving to be very impressive. He not only took 8 wickets in the first four matches against India but dismissed Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Kedar Jadhav twice. Dhoni and Virat are considered better against spinner in team India.
Many crickets had criticized Chahal after this match, but former Sri Lankan veteran spinner Muttiah Muralitharan called him a champion and said that he is a human, not a robot.
Muralitharan told “You can not expect from a player that he will take five wickets whenever he plays the match. He is a champion bowler and has been bowling well for the last two years.”
He added “he has diversity and he can disturb the opposition batsman. It’s just a matter of his failure in just one match. Believe it, he is not a robot. You can not pressure a player to expect better performance in every match.”
Former Indian spinner E.A.S. Prasanna also reiterated Muralitharan’s point and said that a match does not change anything. He said, “How many matches have Chahal played – about 50 (41)? Are you telling me that he played so many such games for his country? We have to be Patience with them.”
