Ajinkya Rahane has been given the responsibility to lead India A in the first three ODIs against England Lions. In the meantime, the emerging Rishabh Pant will be playing in last two ODIs (against England Lions) before joining Team India in New Zealand for the T20Is.
It will be a difficult task for selectors in shortlisting India’s batsmen, especially the upper order, for the upcoming World Cup. India will confidently travel to New Zealand after the historic victory against Aussies. The first ODI between India and the Kiwis will be played on January 23, at the McLean Park in Napier.
On the same day, India A will also compete against the England Team in Thiruvananthapuram. India A will contest 5 ODIs and 2 Tests against the English Team.
With stumbling form of Shikhar Dhawan and Ambati Rayudu in the recent past, team management has decided to ensure that both Rahane and Pant bat high up the order against Lions. And another reason to bat higher may have MSD, who recently named the ‘Man of the Series’ after scoring 3 back to back half-centuries in Australia.
The team management will be watching the performances of both Rahane and Pant against England Lions rather closely.
