Manchester United lost 2-0 at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The goals of Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe were enough to put the visitors in front of the second leg.

Both teams have struggled in the early exchange for opportunities. The best chance of the first half fell to Mbappe, but the young striker failed when he met with David de Gea one to one.

While in the first half both teams failed to score, the actual action came in the second half. The PSG scored two quick goals. Angel di Maria sent a nice pass to Kimpembe from a corner, who passed the ball past De Gea and gave the French giant a 53rd-minute lead. Seven minutes later Di Maria was back in the thick of things, using Mbappe for the PSG’s second goal. The former Monaco star took advantage of the poor defensive lineup of Man United make 2-0 for visitors. Things got even worse for Man United when Paul Pogba saw red in the dying minutes of the match.

The 2-0 defeat is the first defeat Man United has suffered since the transfer of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim coach. It also ends the eleven-game unbeaten run of the Red Devils under the Norwegian tactician.

PSG, meanwhile, will secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League when playing against Manchester United in the return leg at the Parc des Princes. The French giants were eliminated last season after losing both legs to defending champions Real Madrid. Thomas Tuchel and his men are raving about the confidence-building victory at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, football fans are on social media in full swing, and trolls are directed to Man United and their fans.
