Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has won the gold medal in the Ali Aliyev Tournament played at Russia’s Dagestan. Bajrang beat local player Victor Rasadin 13-8 in Russia’s 65 kg freestyle category This is Bajrang’s second gold throughout the week. Earlier, he won his gold medal in the Asian Championship last week in China.
Bajrang will now go to the US from here, where he will compete on Madison Square in New York on May 6th. Here, the US will face two-time national champion Yiyani Deacomahils Bajrang is the first Indian to see Madison Square Garden fight. The American Wrestling Federation has invited Bajrang to fight in the Madison Square Garden. The match has been named ‘Grapple at the Garden – Beat the Streets’.

The Wrestling Federation of India has recommended the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to Bajrang Punia. Apart from these, the federation has also sent the name of women’s wrestler Vinesh Phogat to the sports ministry for sports gems. Last year, Wrestler Bajrang Punia had expressed his displeasure over the ignorance of the country’s highest sports award and threatened to go to court. However, after convincing his mentor Yogeshwar Dutt and meeting with Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, he changed his mind.
